Enjoy Triking the Easy Way

Are you looking for an attractive recumbent trike – without becoming too immersed in all the technical details of the tricycle world? Then the Gekko 26 is a perfect choice: clear lines, raised seating position, no compromises in equipment and easy to buy. And all this at a tempting price!

With the Gekko 26, our engineers have fundamentally rethought the tricycle philosophy of HP Velotechnik. The aim was not only to achieve a higher seating position on an affordable laid-back adults trike. Above all, our engineers wanted to implement the typical, sporty and precise driving dynamics of our Tadpole trikes with the two steered front wheels in a very price-sensitive environment. In other words: A great trike also for those who have to work on a tighter budget.

Thinking Radical Requires Consistent Concepts

Two essential features are the main reasons why the frame construction of HP Velotechnik’s trikes is very labor-intensive: First and foremost the driving characteristics, which are achieved above all by the ingenious geometry of the front wheel steering and which have a decisive influence on the driving experience. We will not change that! Thus, the Gekko 26 does without our second design refinement: the patented folding technology In one respect, this even gives you an advantage: the strong frame can carry up to 150 kg (331 lbs), which is more payload than the foldable models.

You can configure the drive train, the brake system and other technical components in several hundred thousand variants for almost all other two- and three-wheelers that we custom-made for you in our factory in Kriftel, Germany. The option list for the Gekko 26 is short and convincing.

Practical Equipment Requires No Compromises

We equip each Gekko 26 with a fixed, rock-solid component specification. For us, rock-solid means: 24-gear drivetrain from Sram, hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano, tires from Schwalbe and of course a tried-and-tested powder coating.

Handy? For sure! We offer many useful and convenient accessories for your Gekko 26. Be it our special carriers, mudguards, headrests or rear-view mirrors and lighting systems – your dealer will be happy to complete your Gekko 26 to satisfy your needs. So you will soon be at the pole position for a beautiful new Triker life!

The Details at a Glance

Size adjustment

To adjust the frame to your leg length, you can slide the front boom into or out of the main frame after loosening the two clamping bolts under the main frame.

Foldable seat backrest

Convenient for transport: Although the Gekko 26 comes without a folding hinge for the main frame, you can still fold the seat forward to reduce the height when transporting the trike in the car.

Detachable wheels

To reduce the size of your Gekko 26 even further, loosen the axle bolts of the HP Sport hubs with an open-end wrench and Allen key and simply remove the front wheels together with the brake disc.

Derailleur system

Solid start: Sram’s X4 rear derailleur combines shifting precision, low weight, and elegant design with an outstandingly low price. We offer this 24-speed derailleur in combination with a Shimano triple chainring set for our Gekko 26 tadpole trike. A convenient plus: With the smooth-running Sram twist shifters you always have the right gear ratio at hand.

From Compact Size to Full Riding Pleasure in Ten Seconds

Time for a change of perspective. With the Gekko fx 20, a small change in attitude offers great new prospects. Sit back and relax in the comfortable seat. Raise your legs casually. Enjoy the panoramic view. Plenty of riding pleasure ahead of you!

Speeds up not only your heart rate: The Gekko fx 20 remarkably unfolds into a good deal of riding pleasure. To enable you to carry the Gekko fx 20 quite compactly wherever you’d like to go, the engineers at HP Velotechnik have equipped the foldable version of their nimble touring trike with an amazingly fast, easy-to-operate, sophisticated folding system.

Folding Tricycle with a Unique Twist

Particularly useful: All components remain mounted on the trike – unlike conventional folding trikes, in which the seat, wheels or rack must be removed first and transported separately. All this is made possible by HP Velotechnik’s patented Dual Flat Fold (D.F.F.) folding system, which uses only two quick-release levers for the Gekko fx 20. With little practice, you can fold your Gekko fx 20 into a compact size of 83 x 52 x 82 cm (32¾ x 20½ x 32 1/3″) in ten seconds.

Your advantage: After the swift folding, the package can be parked vertically to save space. So you can carry it easily in winding staircases or through train doors. On the platform, you simply wheel the folded Gekko fx 20 on its integrated transport wheels.

Cunning design: The solid frame construction of the Gekko fx 20 combines safe road holding with sporty handling, precise steering, low weight, and minimal space requirements. The frame cross member, which is bent far back and positioned close to the seat, and the robust, angle- and width-adjustable handlebar ensure easy entry and exit. In addition to innovative bicycle technology, the Gekko fx 20 also benefits from many years of tricycle construction experience of the expert engineers at HP Velotechnik. Tough and with a lot of traction, your Gekko fx 20 is your faithful companion in everyday life and when traveling.

Your Gekko fx 20 Shows Ergonomics at It’s Best

Finally, a cycle on which you’d like to remain seated for another round after the tour. In terms of ergonomics, your Gekko fx 20 is far superior to conventional upright bikes. Instead of balancing your whole body weight on a small, hard saddle, lean back comfortably in the wide mesh seat. The incline of the anatomically shaped backrest can be variably adjusted. It offers pleasant back support and relieves your spine. Relax: You can simply forget about an aching bottom, numb private parts, aching spinal discs or a stiff neck.

To make it easy for you to get in and get out the frame cross member that connects the front wheels is bent backward in such a way that you can put your feet securely on the ground close to the seat. Smaller
riders will appreciate the built-in, extra wide heel clearance of the Gekko fx 20.

In the recumbent position you spare your knees when pedaling and can systematically regulate the stress of the muscles during fitness training. The sporty pedal position of the Gekko fx 20 enables an optimal power support in the seat and gives you a streamlined, fully relaxed posture. Due to the open upper body posture, constricting pressure on the abdomen and your organs is avoided. Instead, the lungs can fully enlarge and bring your cardiovascular system to full capacity. Learn fast on the Gekko fx 20: Riding pleasure is the best heart rate accelerator!

The Details at a Glance

Ergonomic seat

The HP Velotechnik seat system creates an exemplary ergonomic connection at the main interface between the rider and the trike. The well-ventilated mesh seat of the Gekko fx 20 is integrated in the frame structure for maximum stability. The seat features an anatomically shaped, adjustable reclining backrest and a handy zippered pocket for your important little things.

Robust folding hinge

Double safety: The robust folding hinge has a locking bolt that unlocks against spring pressure after opening the quick release. The sturdy folding joint has a safety bolt that is unlocked against spring pressure after the quick release is disengaged. Stainless steel precision folding axis from HP Velotechnik.

Ergonomic handlebars

Comfortably-positioned ergo-bars beneath the seat relieve the strain from your wrists and neck muscles. HP Velotechnik’s tried and tested steering geometry combines smooth directional stability with impressive maneuverability. Solid bearing with adjustable cartridge headset on the handlebar and maintenance-free sealed joint heads on the tie rods. The lightweight, high strength knuckles are forged and CNC machined for maximum tracking stability. They are mounted with durable, adjustable headsets rather outside on the frame.

Chain protections tubes

Protects your clothes and the chain: The drive train is mostly covered. The unique chain tubes made from durable plastic create minimum friction for a quiet ride. The frame is adjusted to your leg length by shortening or extending the front boom in the main frame.

Disc brakes

The Gekko fx 20 has a very safe braking action due to the low center of gravity and the long wheelbase. The standard disc brakes ensure maximum braking power even in bad weather. The front wheels are controlled separately so that you can selectively brake the inner wheel when cornering. Due to HP Velotechnik’s sophisticated steering geometry, the steering is not affected by braking or sudden bumps on your trail. On request, we build your trike with mechanically or hydraulically coupled front brakes with one-hand operation and a rear disc brake.

Easy wheel removal

Easy to transport: HP Velotechnik has developed open wheel mounts that allow the front wheels to be easily detached together with the brake disc by loosening just one bolt (HP Performance hubs are standard on Scorpions).

Gekko fx 26

The sporty foldable touring trike

  • Medium seat height for easy mounting and good visibility with dynamics performance
  • Medium pedal position above the seat offers good support for pedaling forces
  • Excellent tipping stability
  • 26-inch rear wheel for an optimally smooth ride
  • Luggage capacity: up to 35 kg (77 lbs) in 4 bags
  • Maximum payload 130 kg (286 lbs)
  • Lightweight construction for easy handling in everyday life
  • Foldable without tools in 60 seconds (Dual Flat Fold folding system); all parts remain on the trike

Unfolds a Great Deal of Triking Pleasure

The smooth performance of the large 26 inch rear wheel in this trike is outstanding. Once you have experienced this, you probably won’t want to miss this feeling anymore. The long wheelbase ensures a smooth, yet dynamic performance. And yet the large-wheel-version of HP Velotechnik’s foldable Gekko recumbent trike remains remarkably handy: all parts stay on the trike when you fold it. Which means: In 10 seconds your trike can be folded up to car boot size with ease!

A focus ond sporty riding dynamics – or most importantly a reliable travel companion? You can choose for yourself: The Gekko fx 26 is as versatile as all recumbent bikes and trikes designed by the the expert engineers at HP Velotechnik’s headquarters in Kriftel, Germany. Whether you’ re looking for purist high-speed maneuvers on a lightweight recumbent trike or want fenders, luggage racks and comfort options: You choose – and we build your dream trike!

26 Inch Drive Wheel for Dynamic Propulsion

The large 26 inch rear wheel gives the Gekko fx 26 a significant boost in dynamic propulsion. The advantages of this chassis design are clear: the long wheelbase and the powerful drive wheel behind the cockpit deliver a noticeably more comfortable triking experience. Key points are smooth running, less rolling resistance and easy-rolling over obstacles.

Impressive: the elegant notchback. The frame’s powerful, curved seat stay appears to transfer the power directly into the pilot seat of this trike. The long wheelbase in combination with the dynamically swept forward cross members give the large Gekko fx 26 it’s own prominent language of design.

The sturdy smooth-running wheels are optimized for the high side forces on the tricycle. The black anodized HP Velotechnik tricycle rims with rugged aero hollow section combine excellent directional stability, maximum lateral stiffness and low weight for quick acceleration. Further highlights are our hubs with maintenance-free, sealed precision ball bearings and stainless steel spokes.

Wider is better: The wider the track width, the higher is the tilt stability and the faster your trike is when cornering. For this purpose the broad track of 78 cm (30¾”) of the Gekko fx 26 provides a lot of room between the wheels for your hands on the wide handlebars, allowing a much wider steering angle for a small turning circle. To enable your trike to slip casually through doors and gates, HP Velotechnik has developed narrow hubs for a low total width of only 83 cm (32¾”).

Trike Technology Hotspots for Your Comfort

Although the Gekko fx 26 comes with a big rear wheel, you can fold it small, just like its little brother with the 20 inch rear wheel. In no time at all. A practiced trike rider will take only 10 seconds to fold his vehicle to a size of 107 x 83 x 58 cm (32 x 23 x 42″)

Thanks to HP Velotechnik’s patented Dual Flat Fold System (D.F.F.) no parts have to be dismantled. Not even if you have chosen to equip your trike the optional electric motor and battery.

The pedal position, which is significantly higher than the seat, ensures efficient power transmission. Together with the adjustable flat seat angle for a streamlined position, it emphasizes the sporty appeal of your Gekko fx 26. Of course, this is also reflected in the other technical details!

  • Slightly raised to neutral pedal position above the seat for safer pedalling
  • Excellent tipping stability
  • Compact and sturdy 20-inch rear wheel
  • Luggage capacity: up to 25 kg (55 lbs) in 2 bags
  • Maximum payload 130 kg (286 lbs)

  • Foldable without tools in 60 seconds (Dual Flat Fold folding system)

Gekko fxs: Our Best Trike for Kids with Special Needs and Great Trike for Short People

The Gekko fxs is the adaptive trike that grows with your kid! There can be many reasons why a conventional upright bike is not suitable for your child. At HP Velotechnik, we believe that cycling should be a natural part of every childhood and also be safe and convenient for short adults. That’s why this tricycle now also makes children with special needs smile – and you, as parents, will certainly do the same, too.

The Gekko fxs has been specially developed for children, young people with disabilities and other short persons and can easily be adapted to fit body sizes from 115 to 180 centimeters (4′ to 5’11”). If your child has difficulty maintaining his or her balance on an upright bike, then in many cases he or she will be able to sit on this stable tricycle securely, even at a standstill. And if it is otherwise difficult for your child to perform a smooth pedaling movement, it will be much easier to train and encourage when your child is safely seated in the comfortable recumbent seat of this special needs tricycle. This is also recognized by the German health insurance system: Thanks to the medical aid number (22.51.02.0061), it is now possible in many cases to cover the costs.

Our Smallest Tricycle for People with Special Abilities

Your child can lean back, relax and always see the two front wheels to stay aware of the width of its trike, also when riding in narrow passages. Because the Gekko fxs is designed with only one rear wheel at the back just like a regular children’s bike, we can install individually suitable, easy-to-use shifting technology from our modular system for your kid. Meanwhile, your child can look forward to the full range of beautiful bicycle bags or practical bicycle baskets thanks to the robust standard luggage carrier to transport his or her favorite items.

Especially for handicapped children, parents often hope for more normality, more mobility and the greatest possible independence – the adaptive Gekko fxs rehabilitation and therapy trike can make an important contribution here. Isn’ it amazing that with the Gekko fxs trike, so much good for health and quality of life can be such fun to ride for your kid, too!

The Gekko fxs will stand and ride particularly safely – even for inexperienced riders in fast curves or people with a limited sense of balance. The “tadpole” tricycle design with the two wheels at the front and the rider’s low center of gravity ensure particularly good stability when braking in tight turns. The crossbar of the reinforced frame connects the two front wheels elegantly while sweeping significantly further rearwards to the seat than on other trikes. This creates a lot of space between the two front wheels for easy boarding, even with the special needs of physically impaired persons. Special advantage: Your child can see the width of his vehicle directly from the two front wheels at any time – safer for himself and others than would be possible with conventional rehab bikes or simple bicycles with support wheels at the rear.

This tricycle enables the child to move independently in many cases despite its handicap. At the same time, physiotherapeutic therapy is enhanced and individual support and equilibrium reactions, as well as movement coordination, are trained. In the recumbent bike position, your child can pedal with less strain on the knees and can precisely regulate the muscular load. The high pedal position of the Gekko fxs above the seat enables effective power support on the backrest and gives the driver a relaxed, streamlined posture. The open position of the upper body prevents constricting pressure on the abdominal cavity and the organs. Instead, the lungs can fully unfold.

How many bikes does your child need to grow up? With HP Velotechnik, the answer is simple: Exactly one! Thanks to the Triple Vario design for body sizes between 115 and 180 centimeters (4′-5’11”), the Gekko fxs trike simply grows with your child’s height.

Lots of Riding Pleasure Included by Default!

Your child can expand his or her range of activities, gain new experiences in terms of location and increase his or her zest for life and self-esteem. The significant health benefits of recumbent cycling for the cardiovascular and nervous systems when training symmetrical movements, the effective relaxation of the spine, arms and shoulder girdle musculature and the effective physical-motor stimulation of adolescents unfold their advantages above all when the vehicle chosen is enjoyed with enthusiasm in everyday life.

Indications: The Gekko fxs can be used to restore mobility in cases of balance and coordination disorders, as well as limited natural movement patterns. Depending on the recommendation of your child’s therapist, possible indications for riding this tricycle are:

  • Balance disorders/dizziness
  • Joint mobilization, e.g. for arthrosis
  • Neuromuscular diseases e.g. cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy
  • Paralysis e.g. stroke with hemiplegia, partial paralysis of arm or leg
  • Increase of muscle mass
  • Back pain

The Gekko fxs should be especially considered when a child cannot safely use conventional children’s bicycles, even with standard support wheels, due to its special limitations.

Positive effects:

  • Promotes kinetic coordination
  • Improvement of posture symmetry
  • Improvement of physical performance and condition
  • Compensation for lack of mobility
  • Learning and promoting specific motion sequences
  • Prevention of contractures
  • Promoting general well-being
  • Integration and participation in society

Ergonomic, Comfortable and Extremely Variable

For children, an ergonomically shaped seat is particularly important. But no two children are the same. With the OrthoFlex seat, we have therefore developed a completely new adaptable seat sturdily integrated into the frame of the Gekko fxs. It is extremely variable and also adapts comfortably to special needs throughout childhood and adolescence. As your child grows, it will not only have longer legs, but also a different back shape and a larger pelvis. When extending the rear part of the frame after a growth boost, you not only increase the distance to the bottom bracket but also the seat depth of the OrthoFlex seat. To adjust the length of the frame independently of the seat, use the front frame extension.

How upright should your child sit? The seat angle can be infinitely adjusted in the range between 48 and 64 degrees – the Gekko fxs allows a much more upright sitting position for rehabilitation and therapy purposes than is the case with recreational recumbents. All these adjustments can be made in just a few simple steps: you only need to open the eye-catching blue quick-releases and adjust the frame and seat as desired.

More support when cornering: A unique feature of the OrthoFlex seat is that you or your care provider can individually adjust the side support and back support to suit the shape of your child’s spine using individually adjustable padding parts. This is because the eight pads are not sewn firmly into the seat, but are inserted in special pockets that you can open and adjust using Velcro fasteners on the sides. The openings are clearly marked by blue stripes. For small riders, simply slide the cushions at the edge of the seat and backrest a little inwards to reduce the effective width of the seat to the correct size. When cornering, the rider feels the lateral forces, unlike when riding an upright bike – which is why the side pads must provide support in the right places. But not only the lateral support, also the support in the area of the lower lumbar vertebrae (lordosis segment) can be individually adjusted by shifting the upholstery parts. For children and teenagers under approx. 1.40 m (4’7″), padding can also be inserted in the neck area to support the head. For taller riders, a separate headrest is available that can be adjusted in height and angle using a quick-release.

For special therapeutic requirements, orthopedic specialists can also adjust the seat with the greatest precision. Because the seat cushions are not sewn in, they can easily be replaced by custom molded back support parts.

The Gekko fxs Easily Unfolds a Lot of Riding Pleasure!

Speeds up not only your heart rate: This tricycle remarkably unfolds into a good deal of riding pleasure. To help you take the Gekko fxs wherever you need it, HP Velotechnik’s engineers have equipped the compact Gekko fxs with an amazingly fast, easy-to-operate, sophisticated folding system.

Particularly useful: All components remain firmly attached to the trike – unlike conventional folding tricycles, where the seat or luggage rack must first be removed and transported separately. All this is made possible by HP Velotechnik’s patented Dual Flat Fold (D.F.F.) folding system, which uses only two quick-release levers for the Gekko fxs. With a little practice, you can fold your Gekko fxs up to 92×57×86 cm compact in a short time (36″x22.5″x34″) For transport by car or train, a practical protective cover is available for the folded Gekko fxs.

Your advantage: After the swift folding, the package can be parked vertically to save space. So you can carry it easily in winding staircases or through train doors. On the platform, you simply wheel the folded Gekko fxs on its integrated transport wheels.

Cunning design: The solid frame construction of the Gekko fxs combines safe road holding with sporty handling, precise steering, low weight, and minimal space requirements. The frame cross member, which is bent far back and positioned close to the seat, and the robust, angle- and width-adjustable handlebar ensure easy entry and exit.

Optional Features for True Individuals

Have you got your own notion of your ideal bike technology? Our modular system enables us to build your trike to meet your needs and desires. A whole range of reliable features and components is available for your trike, all of which have been specially developed to excel in everyday use. Here we show some selected examples:

Front Boom Quick Adjust

To adjust the frame to your leg length, you can slide the front boom into or out of the main frame after loosening the two clamping bolts under the main frame. With the optional Quick frame adjustment, the length can be adjusted more quickly. The change in chain length is compensated by smooth-running idler pulleys. By sliding in the front boom during transport, your Gekko gets even more compact.

Rear Rack

This optional stable luggage rack is made of 10 mm tube and carries up to 25 kg (55 lbs). Your panniers are kept at a safe distance from the rear wheel by the 2-braced construction. Practical detail: Protective bracket for the tail light with plastic coating. When folding, the carrier remains firmly attached to the frame.

Parking Brake

As a parking brake, we can install a V-brake on the rear wheel. It is operated by a thumb lever at the handlebar.

Fenders / Mudguards

Functional mudguards: HP Velotechnik’s Trikefender offers excellent splash protection to the rear and especially to the side of the rider. The inside edge of the robust plastic mudguards is extended far down. Elegant internal mounting with height adjustment for tires up to 50 mm (2″).

Protection against Wind and Rain

The Streamer front fairing from HP Velotechnik keeps your feet warm and legs dry. The fairing can be easily removed using the quick-release lever and rolled up for transport.

Electric Power-Assist

Do you offer electric drive assistance? Certainly, we do – this is another domain of our trikes! HP Velotechnik can optionally equip all vehicles with a powerful electric motor. More and more people discover the easy way of riding an HP Velotechnik trike while sitting laid back in absolute comfort. No other type of bicycle fits electric motors as perfectly as recumbent trikes. Why is obvious: The ease of pedaling and the ergonomic sitting position make the ride even more pleasant. The built-in aerodynamic advantage of your recumbent trike can also be exploited electrically: less drag means more range. The e-assist system integrates elegantly into the trike’s design. This applies not only to the hub motor in the rear wheel or the bottom bracket motor but also to the control unit on the handlebar and the battery.

Hand rest

A real boost to comfort for all trike riders. The hands easily guide the handlebars without the need for strenuous holding effort on the handlebar grip. The comfortably padded hand rests can be individually adjusted in angle and inclination. It is also available as a version with hand fixation – ideal to complement the one-hand operation of brake and gearshift.
